Pens and Writing Instruments, Housewares and Kitchenware, Furniture, Appliances and Fans, Disneyana, Science Fiction, Banks, Registers and Vending and Militaria are only a couple of examples of the business of collecting pieces. The thing known as a collectible (or collectable) is most often an item that has been manufactured and meant for individuals to collect. In this respect, they are separate from other items of collections, which might also include natural objects (such as, leaves) and subjects produced for uses other than collecting (e.g., photos).

Some things made for other purposes, (for example toys), have become so in demand among collectors that they are later marketed specifically to that audience. The top prices for many older kinds of Star Trek figures is an excellent example of this extraordinary event because the figures were originally intended to be acquired as toys for children instead of collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included as part of a package with other products, for example cigarette cards in cigarette cartons. Popular goods started to developed a secondary market and oftentimes turned into the object of collectible craziness. It didn't take long before many collectible items started to be sold separately, instead of the practice of being used as accessories for marketing to add to the appeal of other goods.

To encourage collecting, product makers most usually create a complete series of a given collectible, ensuring that each product is differentiated in some way. Examples include football jerseys showing individual team players, or differing designs of Batman figures. Addicts will typically try to put together an entire set of the available kinds.

The early variations of a product, manufactured in lesser quantities prior to its collectible popularity has begun, very often command huge prices on the secondary market. In a mature market, collectibles rarely prove to be a highly profitable investment.

In a very few cases, a series of circumstances will take place that result in an object from a series of collectibles becoming hugely valuable. These items are known as collector's items because of their rarity, and these objects have sometimes been valuable enough to be available for abundant amounts of cash. Some people even make unavailable remainders of such items to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested in collecting Rocks, Fossils, Minerals, Transportation, Vintage Sewing, Historical Memorabilia or even Knives, Swords and Blades, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
