Advertising, Comics, Decorative Collectibles, Pez, Keychains, Promo Glasses, Autographs, Science Fiction and Knives, Swords and Blades are just a few examples of the hobby of collecting pieces. The item commonly called a collectible (or collectable) is most usually something that has been manufactured which has been designed for people to collect. Due to this fact, they are separate from other things of collections, which could also include natural items (for example, butterflies) and subjects made for reasons other than collecting (e.g., photos).

Quite a few objects designed for other purposes, (such as toys), became so popular in the world of collectors that they are later targeted directly to that group. The high price for many older Star Wars action figures is an excellent example of this phenomenon since the figures were originally intended to be acquired as toys for children instead of collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included as incentives with other goods, such as cigarette cards in cigarette packs. Popular goods started to see a secondary market and sometimes became the target of collectible craziness. It didn't take long before many collectible items came to be available separately, instead of being made available as marketing accessories to increase the appeal of other products.

As a way of increasing the appeal of collecting, product makers most often make an entire series of a given collectible, making sure that each item is differentiated in some fashion. Some examples include tee shirts showing individual Disney characters, or different designs of Snoopy dolls. Fanatics will usually try to get together a complete set of the available types.

The early versions of a product, produced in smaller quantities prior to its collectible popularity has developed, very often get rediculously high premiums on the secondary market. When it comes down to a mature market, collectibles rarely prove to be a brilliant investment.

Occasionally, a chain of events will take place that result in a subject from a collectible series becoming unusually valuable. These items are known as collector's items due to their rarity, and these subjects have occasionally been worth enough to be marketed for extraordinary amounts of cash. Some collectors even go to great lengths to make unavailable remainders of such pieces in order to ensure forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested about collecting Tobacciana, Cultures, Ethnicities, Rocks, Fossils, Minerals, Furniture, Appliances and Fans or even Tools, Hardware and Locks, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
