Disneyana, Religions, Spirituality, Advertising, Casino, Animals, Science, Medical and Breweriana and Beer are just 7 examples to do with the business of collecting items. A collectible (or collectable) is most usually an item that has been manufactured and aimed at people to collect. For this reason, they are different from other items of collections, which may also include natural subjects (for example, leaves) and things made for uses other than collecting (such as, items of clothing).

Some objects designed for other purposes, (e.g. toys), have become so in demand amongst collectors that they are subsequently targeted directly to that group of collectors. The high price for several older Transformer figures is an excellent example of this extraordinary event because the figures were originally intended to be purchased as playthings instead of collectibles.

The very first collectibles were included as part of a package with other products, for example cigarette cards in cigarette cartons. Popular goods developed an extra market and very often turned into the target of collectible craziness. After a time many collectible pieces came to be available separately, instead of being used as aids to marketing to improve the appeal of other goods.

In order to increase the appeal of collecting, producers typically manufacture a complete series of a certain collectible, making sure that every product is differentiated in some fashion. Various examples include sports cards depicting individual players, or differing designs of Superman figures. Fans will most often try to get together an entire set of the available versions.

The early variations of a product, manufactured in lesser batches before its popularity as a collectible has ensued, sometimes command very high premiums on the secondary market. In a mature market, collectibles rarely, if ever, prove to be an outstanding investment.

Occasionally, a series of circumstances will take place that result in a subject from a series of collectibles becoming incredibly valuable. These items are known as collector's items due to their rarity, and these things have occasionally been valuable enough to be sold for considerable amounts of currency. Some people even go to great lengths to destroy remainders of such items to ensure forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested in collecting Transportation, Militaria, Arcade, Jukeboxes and Pinball, Bottles and Insulators or even Barware, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
