Furniture, Appliances and Fans, Science, Medical, Comics, Pez, Keychains, Promo Glasses, Militaria, Tools, Hardware and Locks and Metalware are merely a couple of examples to do with the hobby of collecting pieces. The thing known as a collectible (or collectable) is most usually a manufactured item designed for people to collect. For this reason, they are distinguishable from other objects of collections, which could also include natural subjects (such as, insects) and items produced for uses other than collecting (for example, cars).

Some things made for other purposes, (e.g. toys), have become so popular amongst collectors that they are subsequently marketed directly to that group. The exhorbitant costs for certain older kinds of GI Joe figures is a particularly good example of this extraordinary event because the figures were originally meant to be acquired as playthings rather than collectibles.

The very first collectibles were included as part of a package with other goods, for example cigarette cards in cartons of cigarettes. Items that became popular started to see an extra market and oftentimes became the object of collectible craziness. After a time many collectible items started to be sold separately, instead of being made available as aids to marketing to increase the appeal of other goods.

To encourage collecting, product makers usually create a complete series of a certain collectible, with each item differentiated in some way. Examples include sports cards depicting individual players, or differing designs of Batman figures. Fanatics will most often try to assemble an entire set of the available types.

The initial variations of a product, designed in lesser quantities prior to its popularity as a collectible has developed, very often fetch very high prices on the secondary market. When it comes down to a mature market, collectibles rarely turn into a brilliant investment.

Very occasionally, a series of events will take place that result in an item from a series of collectibles becoming excessively valuable. These things are referred to as collector's items because of their rarity, and these subjects have sometimes been worth enough to be available for serious amounts of cash. Some unscrupulous people even go to great lengths to get rid of remainders of such pieces to ensure forced scarcity.

So, whether you're fanatical about collecting Clocks, Tobacciana, Radio, Phonograph, TV, Phone, Historical Memorabilia or even Decorative Collectibles, now you know all about collectibles.
