The item known as a collectible (or collectable) is most often something that has been manufactured which has been meant for individuals to collect. In this respect, they are distinguishable from other subjects of collections, which could also include natural things (such as, beetles) and objects manufactured for purposes other than collecting (e.g., photos).

Many items produced for other uses, (for example toys), turned out to be so in demand amongst collectors that they are subsequently marketed directly to that audience.
