Pens and Writing Instruments, Tools, Hardware and Locks, Vanity, Perfume and Shaving, Animals, Disneyana, Pez, Keychains, Promo Glasses and Casino are only one or two samples of the hobby of collecting pieces. A collectible (or collectable) is most often something that has been manufactured which has been designed for individuals to collect. Because of this, they are different from other items of collections, which could also include natural subjects (e.g., insects) and things produced for purposes other than collecting (for example, photos).

Quite a few objects manufactured for other uses, (such as toys), became so in demand in the world of collectors that they are subsequently marketed directly to that audience. The top prices for several older kinds of Transformer figures is a good example of this phenomenon because the figures were originally meant to be bought as playthings rather than collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included with other products as incentives, e.g. cigarette cards in packs of cigarettes. Popular goods started to developed a secondary market and sometimes turned into the subject of collectible madness. Finally many collectible items started to be marketed separately, instead of being used as marketing accessories to increase the appeal of other goods.

In order to increase the appeal of collecting, producers typically design an entire series of a certain collectible, ensuring that each product is different in some fashion. Examples include sports cards depicting individual players, or differing designs of Batman figures. Addicts will most usually try to collect a complete set of the available kinds.

The initial types of a product, designed in smaller batches prior to its collectible popularity has begun, oftentimes fetch exorbitant premiums on the secondary market. In a mature market, collectibles rarely turn out to be a brilliant investment.

Occasionally, a chain of events will take place that result in an object from a collectible series becoming surpassingly valuable. These objects are referred to as collector's items because of their rarity, and these things have occasionally been worth enough to be available for ample amounts of currency. Some even go to great lengths to make unavailable remainders of such items in order to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested about collecting Trading Cards, Militaria, Rocks, Fossils, Minerals, Clocks or even Bottles and Insulators, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
