Animation Art, Characters, Photographic Images, Bottles and Insulators, Tobacciana, Decorative Collectibles, Comics and Breweriana and Beer are just one or two samples to do with the hobby of collecting items. The thing known as a collectible (or collectable) is typically an item that has been manufactured and aimed at individuals to collect. In this respect, they are different from other items of collections, which could also include natural objects (such as, butterflies) and things designed for reasons other than collecting (for example, items of clothing).

Many subjects produced for other uses, (e.g. toys), have become so in demand in the world of collectors that they are subsequently directly targeted to that group. The expensive costs for many older Star Trek figures is a good example of this phenomenon since the figures were originally meant to be purchased as playthings instead of collectibles.

The very first collectibles were included as part of a package with other goods, such as cigarette cards in cigarette cartons. Popular items started to developed a secondary market and oftentimes turned into the subject of collectible mania. Finally many collectible pieces came to be marketed separately, instead of being used as marketing accessories to increase the appeal of other products.

In order to encourage collecting, producers most often make an entire series of a given collectible, with each product differentiated in some way. Examples include tee shirts showing individual Disney characters, or differing designs of Batman figures. Addicts will usually try to put together a complete set of the available kinds.

The initial variations of a product, manufactured in smaller quantities prior to its popularity as a collectible has begun, sometimes command exorbitant premiums on the secondary market. In a mature market, collectibles rarely, if ever, become an outstanding investment.

Very occasionally, a chain of circumstances will happen that result in an object from a series of collectibles becoming excessively valuable. These subjects are known as collector's items due to their rarity, and these things have, now and again, been valuable enough to be available for massive amounts of cash. Some unscrupulous people even later destroy remainders of such items to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're fanatical about collecting Postcards and Paper, Advertising, Transportation, Disneyana or even Arcade, Jukeboxes and Pinball, now you know all about collectibles.
