Fantasy, Mythical and Magic, Animation Art, Characters, Lamps, Lighting, Religions, Spirituality, Postcards and Paper, Photographic Images and Linens, Fabric and Textiles are just one or two samples to do with the business of collecting items. The thing known as a collectible (or collectable) is most often an item that has been manufactured and meant for individuals to collect. Because of this, they are distinguishable from other things of collections, which may also include natural items (e.g., butterflies) and subjects designed for reasons other than collecting (such as, stamps).

Some objects made for other purposes, (for example toys), turned out to be so popular amongst collectors that they are later directly targeted to that group. The top prices for several olders types of Star Trek figures is a good example of this phenomena because the figures were originally meant to be bought as children's playthings rather than collectibles.

The very first collectibles were included with other products as incentives, e.g. cigarette cards in cigarette packs. Popular products started to see an extra market and very often turned into the object of collectible craziness. After a time many collectible pieces started to be sold separately, instead of being made available as accessories for marketing to increase the appeal of other products.

To increase the appeal of collecting, product makers typically manufacture an entire series of a certain collectible, making sure that each item is differentiated in some way. Examples include football jerseys showing individual team players, or different designs of Snoopy dolls. Zealots will most usually try to get together a complete set of the available variations.

The first versions of a product, produced in lesser quantities prior to its collectible popularity has started, sometimes fetch huge prices on the secondary market. In a mature market, collectibles rarely turn out to be an outstanding investment.

Now and again, a chain of circumstances will occur that result in an object from a collectible series becoming surpassingly valuable. These items are referred to as collector's items due to their rarity, and these subjects have very occasionally been valuable enough to be available for generous amounts of money. Some even go to great lengths to make unavailable remainders of such items to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested about collecting Pinbacks, Nodders, Lunchboxes, Banks, Registers and Vending, Science, Medical, Barware or even Science Fiction, now you know all about collectibles.
