Vintage Sewing, Science Fiction, Transportation, Clocks, Knives, Swords and Blades, Cultures, Ethnicities and Arcade, Jukeboxes and Pinball are just a few examples to do with the hobby of collecting items. The item known as a collectible (or collectable) is most usually an item that has been manufactured and meant for individuals to collect. Because of this, they are different from other objects of collections, which could also include natural items (for example, insects) and things designed for uses other than collecting (e.g., stamps).

Many subjects produced for other reasons, (such as toys), became so popular in the collecting world that they are later marketed directly to that audience. The top prices for many olders types of Transformer figures is a particularly good example of this phenomenon because the figures were originally meant to be acquired as children's toys instead of collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included as part of a package with other goods, for example cigarette cards in cartons of cigarettes. Products that became popular developed a secondary market and oftentimes became the object of collectible crazes. Finally many collectible pieces came to be available separately, instead of the practice of being used as aids to marketing to add to the appeal of other goods.

To encourage collecting, product makers usually design a complete series of a certain collectible, making sure that each product is different in some fashion. Examples include sports cards depicting individual players, or differing designs of Superman figures. Zealots will typically try to collect an entire set of the available variations.

The first versions of a product, manufactured in smaller batches before its popularity as a collectible has developed, sometimes command exorbitant premiums on the secondary market. In the case of a mature market, collectibles hardly ever become a brilliant investment.

Occasionally, a series of events will take place that result in an item from a collectible series becoming excessively valuable. These subjects are known as collector's items because of their rarity, and these things have occasionally been worth enough to be sold for considerable amounts of currency. Some even later destroy remainders of such pieces to ensure forced scarcity.

So, whether you're fanatical about collecting Metalware, Advertising, Barware, Militaria or even Decorative Collectibles, now you know all about collectibles.
