Casino, Rocks, Fossils, Minerals, Science, Medical, Arcade, Jukeboxes and Pinball, Militaria, Pinbacks, Nodders, Lunchboxes and Radio, Phonograph, TV, Phone are just a few examples of the business of collecting pieces. A collectible (or collectable) is usually an item that has been manufactured and meant for people to collect. In this respect, they are different from other things of collections, which could also include natural subjects (e.g., beetles) and items designed for purposes other than collecting (for example, clothes).

Some objects made for other reasons, (such as toys), have become so in demand in the collecting world that they are subsequently directly targeted to that group. The exhorbitant costs for certain older Star Wars action figures is a good example of this phenomenon because the figures were originally intended to be bought as playthings instead of collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included as part of a package with other goods, such as cigarette cards in packs of cigarettes. Popular products started to developed an extra market and oftentimes turned into the target of collectible mania. Finally many collectible items came to be marketed separately, instead of being made available as accessories for marketing to add to the appeal of other items.

To increase the appeal of collecting, producers most usually manufacture an entire series of a certain collectible, making sure that each item is differentiated in some way. Various examples include sports cards depicting individual players, or different designs of Snoopy dolls. Devotees will most often try to assemble a complete set of the available kinds.

The first versions of a product, produced in lesser batches before its collectible popularity has started, very often bring rediculously high prices on the secondary market. In a mature market, collectibles rarely, if ever, turn out to be a spectacular investment.

Occasionally, a series of events occur that result in a subject from a series of collectibles becoming surpassingly valuable. These objects are referred to as collector's items because of their rarity, and these subjects have very occasionally been valuable enough to be available for plentiful amounts of cash. Some collectors even go to great lengths to make unavailable remainders of such pieces to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're fanatical about collecting Tools, Hardware and Locks, Linens, Fabric and Textiles, Trading Cards, Autographs or even Comics, now you know all about collectibles.
