Comics, Autographs, Cultures, Ethnicities, Bottles and Insulators, Militaria, Vintage Sewing and Animation Art, Characters are merely one or two samples to do with the business of collecting items. A collectible (or collectable) is most usually a manufactured item aimed at people to collect. Due to this fact, they are different from other subjects of collections, which may also include natural items (e.g., butterflies) and things designed for purposes other than collecting (such as, items of apparel).

Some objects made for other uses, (for example toys), turned out to be so popular among collectors that they are subsequently targeted directly to that group of collectors. The top prices for certain older kinds of Star Trek figures is an excellent example of this phenomenon since the figures were originally intended to be bought as children's toys rather than collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included with other products as incentives, for example cigarette cards in packs of cigarettes. Popular items started to see a secondary market and sometimes became the object of collectible mania. Finally many collectible pieces came to be available separately, instead of being made available as marketing accessories to add to the appeal of other items.

To encourage collecting, product makers most often design a complete series of a particular collectible, making sure that each product is different in some way. Various examples include sports cards depicting individual players, or differing designs of Superman figures. Devotees will usually try to get together an entire set of the available versions.

The early kinds of a product, produced in lesser quantities before its collectible popularity has started, oftentimes fetch exorbitant prices on the secondary market. When it comes to a mature market, collectibles rarely prove to be a highly profitable investment.

Occasionally, a chain of events will happen that result in an item from a series of collectibles becoming incredibly valuable. These objects are known as collector's items due to their rarity, and these things have, now and again, been valuable enough to be sold for hefty amounts of cash. Some unscrupulous people even go to great lengths to destroy remainders of such items to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're fanatical about collecting Housewares and Kitchenware, Pens and Writing Instruments, Science Fiction, Wholesale Lots or even Lamps, Lighting, now you know all about collectibles.
