Housewares and Kitchenware, Banks, Registers and Vending, Vanity, Perfume and Shaving, Religions, Spirituality, Wholesale Lots, Trading Cards and Photographic Images are only 7 examples of the business of collecting pieces. The thing known as a collectible (or collectable) is most often something that has been manufactured which has been designed for people to collect. For this reason, they are distinguishable from other objects of collections, which could also include natural subjects (such as, beetles) and things manufactured for reasons other than collecting (for example, items of apparel).

Some items made for other purposes, (e.g. toys), turned out to be so popular in the collecting world that they are subsequently targeted specifically to that audience. The top prices for certain olders types of Star Trek figures is a good example of this phenomenon since the figures were originally meant to be bought as children's playthings instead of collectibles.

Earliest collectibles were included with other goods as incentives, e.g. cigarette cards in cartons of cigarettes. Products that became popular started to see a secondary market and very often turned into the subject of collectible mania. Finally many collectible items came to be marketed separately, instead of the practice of being used as tools for marketing to increase the appeal of other products.

As a way of increasing the appeal of collecting, manufacturers typically make a complete series of a certain collectible, with every item different in some way. Examples include football jerseys showing individual team players, or differing designs of Batman figures. Devotees will most usually try to put together an entire set of the available variations.

The first kinds of a product, designed in lesser batches prior to its popularity as a collectible has developed, oftentimes command rediculously high prices on the secondary market. In a mature market, collectibles rarely turn into a brilliant investment.

In a very few cases, a series of circumstances will happen that result in a subject from a series of collectibles becoming remarkably valuable. These items are referred to as collector's items due to their rarity, and these objects have occasionally been worth enough to be sold for abundant amounts of money. Some collectors even go to great lengths to destroy remainders of such pieces to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested in collecting Science Fiction, Breweriana and Beer, Tobacciana, Linens, Fabric and Textiles or even Furniture, Appliances and Fans, now you know all about collectibles.
