Disneyana, Furniture, Appliances and Fans, Animation Art, Characters, Casino, Autographs, Holiday, Seasonal and Vanity, Perfume and Shaving are only a few examples to do with the business of collecting items. The item commonly called a collectible (or collectable) is typically an item that has been manufactured and meant for people to collect. For this reason, they are different from other objects of collections, which could also include natural subjects (e.g., beetles) and items produced for uses other than collecting (for example, clothes).

Some things designed for other purposes, (such as toys), turned out to be so in demand among collectors that they are later targeted directly to that group of collectors. The exhorbitant costs for many olders types of Star Wars action figures is a good example of this phenomena because the figures were originally intended to be purchased as toys for children instead of collectibles.

Earliest collectibles were included with other goods as incentives, for example cigarette cards in cartons of cigarettes. Items that became popular started to see a secondary market and sometimes turned into the object of collectible mania. After a time many collectible pieces came to be available separately, instead of the practice of being used as aids to marketing to increase the appeal of other goods.

To increase the appeal of collecting, producers usually create a complete series of a given collectible, with each product different in some way. Examples include football jerseys showing individual team players, or differing designs of Superman figures. Enthusiasts will most often try to assemble an entire set of the available variations.

The initial versions of a product, manufactured in smaller quantities before its collectible popularity has begun, very often fetch rediculously high prices on the secondary market. In the case of a mature market, collectibles rarely, if ever, turn out to be a highly profitable investment.

Very occasionally, a series of circumstances occur that result in an item from a series of collectibles becoming surpassingly valuable. These objects are referred to as collector's items due to their rarity, and these things have very occasionally been worth enough to be sold for ample amounts of cash. Some unscrupulous people even later make unavailable remainders of such pieces to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested about collecting Transportation, Breweriana and Beer, Advertising, Lamps, Lighting or even Pez, Keychains, Promo Glasses, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
