Animation Art, Characters, Casino, Pens and Writing Instruments, Lamps, Lighting, Vanity, Perfume and Shaving, Cultures, Ethnicities and Comics are only seven examples of the hobby of collecting pieces. The item commonly called a collectible (or collectable) is most usually a manufactured item aimed at people to collect. For this reason, they are distinguishable from other items of collections, which might also include natural objects (for example, beetles) and subjects manufactured for purposes other than collecting (such as, stamps).

Many things made for other uses, (e.g. toys), have become so in demand among collectors that they are later marketed specifically to that group. The top prices for many older GI Joe figures is a really good example of this phenomena since the figures were originally intended to be bought as children's toys instead of collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included with other goods as incentives, such as cigarette cards in cigarette packs. Popular products started to see an extra market and very often became the object of collectible madness. Eventually many collectible items came to be marketed separately, instead of the practice of being used as marketing tools to add to the appeal of other items.

In order to encourage collecting, manufacturers usually manufacture an entire series of a certain collectible, with every item differentiated in some way. Various examples include football jerseys showing individual team players, or differing designs of Superman figures. Addicts will typically try to collect a complete set of the available variations.

The first kinds of a product, produced in smaller batches prior to its popularity as a collectible has developed, oftentimes get huge prices on the secondary market. When it comes to a mature market, collectibles hardly ever become a highly profitable investment.

Occasionally, a chain of events will occur that result in an object from a collectible series becoming exceedingly valuable. These things are referred to as collector's items because of their rarity, and these objects have very occasionally been valuable enough to be sold for abundant amounts of money. Some even later destroy remainders of such items in order to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested about collecting Science, Medical, Banks, Registers and Vending, Transportation, Wholesale Lots or even Furniture, Appliances and Fans, now you know all about collectibles.
