Radio, Phonograph, TV, Phone, Banks, Registers and Vending, Animation Art, Characters, Science, Medical, Vanity, Perfume and Shaving, Linens, Fabric and Textiles and Photographic Images are merely one or two samples of the business of collecting pieces. The item commonly known as a collectible (or collectable) is typically something that has been manufactured which has been aimed at people to collect. For this reason, they are different from other things of collections, which may also include natural subjects (such as, butterflies) and objects produced for purposes other than collecting (for example, items of clothing).

Some items designed for other uses, (e.g. toys), turned out to be so in demand in the world of collectors that they are subsequently marketed directly to that group of collectors. The high price for several older GI Joe figures is a particularly good example of this phenomena because the figures were originally meant to be acquired as toys for children rather than collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included with other products as incentives, e.g. cigarette cards in cartons of cigarettes. Popular products developed a secondary market and sometimes became the target of collectible madness. Eventually many collectible items came to be sold separately, instead of being made available as marketing aids to improve the appeal of other items.

As a way of increasing the appeal of collecting, producers usually design a complete series of a given collectible, with every item differentiated in some fashion. Examples include tee shirts showing individual Disney characters, or different designs of Snoopy dolls. Devotees will most often try to assemble an entire set of the available versions.

The first types of a product, made in lesser batches prior to its collectible popularity has begun, very often fetch huge prices on the secondary market. In the case of a mature market, collectibles rarely turn out to be a highly profitable investment.

Now and again, a chain of circumstances occur that result in a subject from a series of collectibles becoming inordinately valuable. These items are known as collector's items because of their rarity, and these objects have very occasionally been valuable enough to be available for massive amounts of cash. Some collectors even go to great lengths to get rid of remainders of such pieces to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're fanatical about collecting Wholesale Lots, Casino, Lamps, Lighting, Breweriana and Beer or even Trading Cards, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
