Fantasy, Mythical and Magic, Comics, Bottles and Insulators, Clocks, Banks, Registers and Vending, Postcards and Paper and Advertising are just one or two samples to do with the business of collecting pieces. A collectible (or collectable) is most usually an item that has been manufactured and designed for people to collect. For this reason, they are different from other objects of collections, which may also include natural items (e.g., beetles) and things produced for purposes other than collecting (for example, items of clothing).

Some subjects made for other reasons, (such as toys), became so in demand amongst collectors that they are later directly marketed to that group. The expensive costs for certain olders types of GI Joe figures is an excellent example of this extraordinary event since the figures were originally intended to be purchased as toys for children rather than collectibles.

The earliest collectibles were included as incentives with other goods, for example cigarette cards in cartons of cigarettes. Popular items developed an extra market and sometimes turned into the object of collectible crazes. Finally many collectible items came to be marketed separately, instead of being made available as marketing tools to increase the appeal of other goods.

In order to increase the appeal of collecting, producers most often design an entire series of a particular collectible, with every product different in some fashion. Examples include sports cards depicting individual players, or different designs of Snoopy dolls. Devotees will typically try to collect a complete set of the available versions.

The early kinds of a product, designed in lesser quantities before its collectible popularity has ensued, oftentimes fetch exorbitant prices on the secondary market. When it comes to a mature market, collectibles rarely, if ever, prove to be an outstanding investment.

Occasionally, a chain of events will occur that result in an item from a series of collectibles becoming excessively valuable. These items are known as collector's items due to their rarity, and these objects have very occasionally been valuable enough to be sold for momentous amounts of cash. Some even get rid of remainders of such items to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're fanatical about collecting Pens and Writing Instruments, Historical Memorabilia, Casino, Housewares and Kitchenware or even Militaria, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
