Linens, Fabric and Textiles, Animation Art, Characters, Religions, Spirituality, Animals, Trading Cards, Cultures, Ethnicities and Historical Memorabilia are just one or two samples to do with the hobby of collecting pieces. The item known as a collectible (or collectable) is most often a manufactured item meant for individuals to collect. Because of this, they are separate from other items of collections, which may also include natural objects (such as, beetles) and subjects produced for purposes other than collecting (for example, items of apparel).

Many things designed for other reasons, (e.g. toys), have become so in demand amongst collectors that they are later targeted specifically to that group. The high price for certain olders types of Star Trek figures is a particularly good example of this extraordinary event since the figures were originally meant to be bought as children's toys instead of collectibles.

Earliest collectibles were included as part of a package with other products, for example cigarette cards in packs of cigarettes. Products that became popular started to developed a secondary market and sometimes became the subject of collectible madness. After a time many collectible items came to be available separately, instead of the practice of being used as marketing accessories to increase the appeal of other products.

In order to encourage collecting, product makers usually create a complete series of a given collectible, making sure that every product is different in some fashion. Various examples include sports cards depicting individual players, or different designs of Beanie Baby. Enthusiasts will most usually try to get together an entire set of the available types.

The first variations of a product, manufactured in lesser quantities before its collectible popularity has ensued, oftentimes command huge premiums on the secondary market. In a mature market, collectibles rarely become a highly profitable investment.

In a very few cases, a chain of circumstances will take place that result in an object from a collectible series becoming hugely valuable. These things are referred to as collector's items because of their rarity, and these subjects have sometimes been worth enough to be marketed for considerable amounts of money. Some collectors even destroy remainders of such pieces to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested about collecting Barware, Comics, Advertising, Banks, Registers and Vending or even Science Fiction, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
