Arcade, Jukeboxes and Pinball, Tobacciana, Animals, Animation Art, Characters, Banks, Registers and Vending, Trading Cards and Photographic Images are just one or two samples of the business of collecting items. A collectible (or collectable) is typically an item that has been manufactured and aimed at individuals to collect. For this reason, they are different from other objects of collections, which could also include natural items (e.g., insects) and subjects manufactured for reasons other than collecting (such as, cars).

Many things made for other uses, (for example toys), have become so in demand among collectors that they are subsequently targeted specifically to that group. The exhorbitant costs for many olders types of Star Wars action figures is a really good example of this phenomenon since the figures were originally intended to be acquired as toys for children rather than collectibles.

Earliest collectibles were included with other goods as incentives, such as cigarette cards in cigarette packs. Popular goods started to see an extra market and sometimes became the object of collectible mania. It didn't take long before many collectible pieces started to be marketed separately, instead of being used as accessories for marketing to improve the appeal of other products.

As a way of increasing the appeal of collecting, producers most usually design an entire series of a certain collectible, with every item differentiated in some fashion. Examples include football jerseys showing individual team players, or different designs of Snoopy dolls. Zealots will most often try to put together a complete set of the available variations.

The early kinds of a product, produced in lesser quantities before its popularity as a collectible has started, very often fetch huge prices on the secondary market. When it comes to a mature market, collectibles rarely turn into a spectacular investment.

In a very few cases, a chain of circumstances will occur that result in an item from a collectible series becoming excessively valuable. These items are referred to as collector's items due to their rarity, and these objects have sometimes been valuable enough to be available for great amounts of currency. Some collectors even go to great lengths to destroy remainders of such pieces in order to cause forced scarcity.

So, whether you're interested in collecting Vintage Sewing, Historical Memorabilia, Science Fiction, Casino or even Militaria, now you know all there is to know about collectibles.
